Live EV charging status by country — October 2026

Can a driver tell whether a public charger is free before driving to it? Only if the operator publishes live status and that status reaches the apps and maps drivers use. Each month we publish how often that happens across the 1,135,154 charge points on LiveChargeMap. This edition is a snapshot taken on 20 October 2026.

The short answer

AreaCharge pointsFresh live statusStaleNo live status
Worldwide1,135,15437.0%3.1%59.9%
Europe782,38850.6%4.3%45.2%
  • Six in ten charge points worldwide report no live status at all. For those chargers, a map can show where they are but not whether they are free.
  • Europe is just over halfway: about half of its charge points report a fresh status.
  • 3% of charge points have a stale status: the operator reported one, but not within the last six hours. We show these as stale, never as available.

What stands out this month

  • Finland, Luxembourg, Lithuania and Singapore are above 93%: almost every charge point there tells drivers whether it is free.
  • The Netherlands has both a large network (196,324 charge points) and 87.5% fresh live status. Large networks with live status are possible.
  • Germany and France, the two largest networks in Europe on our map, are at 38.8%. Most of the rest are listed in national registers that give location and connectors but no live status.
  • North America is almost entirely without live status here: the United States is at 2.3% and Canada at 1.0%. Even those small shares are mostly charge points flagged as out of service, not live availability. Since 21 October our statistics no longer count these register flags as live status, so from the November edition both countries will show close to 0%.
  • Spain, Portugal, Greece, Australia and New Zealand are at or near 0%. Their charge points reach us only through static registers so far.

How to read these numbers

  • Fresh live status means the operator reported a status (available, in use or out of service) within the last six hours, or within the operator's own update window if that is longer. Only these charge points can show as available.
  • Stale means a status was reported, but not recently enough to trust.
  • No live status means nothing is reported: the charge point comes from a register without status, or its operator does not publish it.
  • The figures describe the charge points on LiveChargeMap, not every charger in a country. Our coverage differs by country, for example Belgium (2,944 charge points so far). A low share means live status does not reach open data and maps. It does not prove that an operator has no live data internally.

Use the data

The numbers come from our statistics page, refreshed daily, which also offers JSON and CSV downloads. You may reuse them under CC BY 4.0: credit "LiveChargeMap" and link to livechargemap.com/stats. Journalists and researchers can ask questions through the contact page.

For charging operators

If your network is listed without live status, you can share an OCPI Locations feed with us for free, read-only and without a contract. It takes a few minutes: see for operators. As soon as your feed syncs, your charge points show fresh status and the numbers on this page change.

Frequently asked questions

Which country has the most live EV charger status?

In this snapshot: Finland (96.8% of 20,121 charge points with a fresh status), followed by Luxembourg, Lithuania and Singapore. Among large networks, the Netherlands leads with 87.5% of 196,324 charge points.

Why do so many chargers show no live status?

Many charge points reach maps only through national registers that list location, connectors and power, but no live status. Live status needs the operator to publish it, for example through an OCPI feed or a national live-data access point.

How often is this report published?

Monthly. The underlying statistics on the /stats page are refreshed every day.
